Seaside herb-rich forest (Säppi, Eurajoki)
On Säppi, the characteristics of the outer archipelago are combined with those of the inner archipelago, due to its forests and sheltered nature. The seaside herb-rich forest in its natural state grows on a bed of bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus), and its tree stand mainly consists of large black alders (Alnus glutinosa). Here there are also some old Norway spruces (Picea abies) and Scots pines (Pinus sylvestris). The field layer is dominated by red campions (Silene dioica) and common valerians (Valeriana officinalis) as well as wood millets (Milium effusum), raspberries (Rubus idaeus) and reed canary-grasses (Phalaris arundinacea). Here, it is easy to forget that you are on an island in the outer archipelago.
