The Kaunissaari island is a hiking and recreation area in the Eurajoensalmi strait, in the sea area of the municipality of Eurajoki. Its sights include the ruins of a sawmill, which operated there between 1874 and 1923, and a beautiful natural environment. The most visible signs of previous settlements include the remains of footings of buildings and foundations of walls. Kaunissaari has a marked nature trail, along which information is provided on the island’s nature and history. The island has two lean-to shelters, four campfire sites, a shelter and four dry toilets for hikers. You can access the island by your own boat or by using transportation services. The water depth at the pier on the northern shore is approximately three metres, making the former freight port easily accessible, even by larger boats. If you take your own boat, be careful: there are shoals near the island.
