The Ouraluoto island was used as a base of pilotage service in 1851–1968. In 2000, the municipality of Merikarvia bought the island and its buildings. Nowadays the former pilot station and Ryssänkasarmi, a small barracks building originally built for Russian soldiers, are rented out to guests for conferences and accommodation. The island also has a sauna with a swimming pier, a beach with a sandy bottom, dry toilets, a landing stage, a barbecue cabin and tent places. A 1.8-metre deep boating route leads to the island, and regular boat transportation is organised in the summer. More information is available at the municipality’s tourist information point.

The sounds in the background are from July–August, made by birds such as herring gulls (Larus argentatus), great black-backed gulls (Larus marinus), Eurasian oystercatchers (Haematopus ostralegus) and terns (Sterna spp.).
